NHV noise: Special November Issue

Online Harassment Prevalent in CT Music Scene…
A page titled @ctsceneconfessions on instagram recently began publishing anonymous messages about the Connecticut music scene, via submissions on a website called tellonym. The instagram page was initially promoting itself as a safe way for the arts community to oust abuse, but after a brief pause of content and the creation of a copycat account. . . A new page titled @ctsceneconfessions2 is now publishing more anonymous content from the community with practically no filter. . . While throughout the time these two pages have existed many musicians had been accused of racism, abuse, false accusations. . . the more recent and toxic page even posting content which claims that non-binary and masc to femme trans-women are often faking their identities. There never really seems to have been any accountability from the accusers or the pages themselves. Every accusation or mean message remains completely anonymous, though the page`s still act rather self-justified. . . Multiple bystander accounts comment on posts from both pages begging them to take the content down. The anonymous pot-stirrers responding their refusals often with a crude online-troll chuckle. . . For me personally, I am grossed out in general by petty behavior. Making others miserable because you happen to be is cruel, and as far as accusations of racism, abuse, or any other reprehensible behavior, those should be made, as well as taken, more seriously. . . In the end, the page`s are more likely symptoms of an already very sick and unhealthy attitude already permeating much of our culture, and now finally our arts habitat. There is a serious problem regarding the effect of technology on our mind`s which I think is usually not mentioned. Studies have shown that instagram use can lead to suicidal thoughts in young people. For them, entering the digital space and proverbial meeting-house moreso meant entering an arena where their elders were demonstrating that cruel verbal behavior they now seem keen to mimic. In what percentage of the internet`s usage are we just name calling and bullying each other? More than enough for me, I miss a brief time in my life where people met and talked in person more than through the vast amounts of ways we have essentially just rebranded email. . . It is so easy to misunderstand someone when all you have from them is a line of letters and words, opinions on the internet are often the perfect place for us to displace our anger. Never needing to see an emotional reaction from the unknown person you are just projecting that anger on to. We interpret things often in the context of how we already feel, certain things in life require a more nuanced approach. By: Renee Zon @reneezonmusic

New Cardiff Giants Finish in the Studio
With the great @montyhuck at the wheel of the project,, the New Cardiff Giants are a band channeling energy from artists and groups like the Cars, Ziggy Stardust, Ween, and Captain Beefheart. They have been working on a new release set to be out very soon! And I got a chance to listen to the singles a bit ahead of the crowds of fans. . . They played a release show on November 2nd to celebrate the drop of the two singles, one titled RE:GEX and one titled God`s Country. The songs offer a lo-fi wave of good vibes from a cool leveling of acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and finally the singer`s gravelly voice matching the fuzzy feelings and diverse mix of sounds filling the ears. . . The personalities of each song span between sarcastic and genuine, or pleading wails to chiller more laid-back grooving. Overall, they know how to bring a party. The New Cardiff Giants are an original band bringing classic feeling to their original music, and sharing a positive, though not undamaged or unguarded, outlook on life. Reality is a drag man, create your own! Also a somewhat dedicated painter, @montyhuck brings the world inside his head out for all to see! Sometimes, it can be hard to keep up, but if you can it is worth it! By: Peter Omalyev
